Nirvana In Utero

I've been looking at this and thinking about getting it:

Ritmo Prenatal Musical System

It's pricey, so I probably wouldn't consider it if we were only going to have one kid, but we don't want an only child, and I have several sound-oriented projects planned for which it would come in handy. I could wear it when I'm working in the lab so the baby could listen to recordings of my mother's voice instead of NPR.
One thing that almost had be sold on it, is that it provides some support. I need something like that while I'm running, and I doubt the baby can sleep while I run anyway. It seems like as good a time as any to learn to love Led Zepplin. I also like that there wouldn't be wires and crap in my way while I'm trying to run.
Another idea I've had is to try to make something myself. I've been planning on getting the Gabrialla belt for running. I read about it in Runner's World, and it's gotten good reviews. I'm thinking about seeing if I could take some ear buds and make pouches for them in the Gabrialla belt. It would be more cost effective and provide more support, but I would worry about stability and loose wires. I'm not entirely sure how I'd put it together. I can sew a button on, but I'm not the world's best seamstress.
   I found these too:

Belly Buds

I like the idea, but I can't stand the idea of paying that much for corded headphones or of buying replacement stickums. I'm sure the sweat from running would wear the stickums out faster than they advertise.

Any ideas or input? Anyone have one of these things they aren't using?

  1. I do not use a speaker system on babe. And I also run (I am at 22 weeks). I pit-pat outdoors and like that quiet time the baby gets so would not put a system on my belly then, I do not know if you workout in a loud gym or something like that

The ritmo has 2 decent reviews on Amazon but neither used it for running. Looking at it my concern would be if it only has one spot for adjustment on the back, that does not seem like enough for me and my changing body. My midwife and I played with a stability belt and options at my last appt. for my running and decided I would go old school and do it with a long wrap around my lower torso twice like many indigenous women. Simply anchor one wrap on the hips and keep it low to alleviate back pain with support and one to hammock the bump.

Have fun exploring your options. I did my own research on sound and awareness for babe prior to conceiving and for me the best option was to be more aware of what noises I was subjecting myself too. I can see not wanting a baby to hear the some of the morose news on NPR in the morning but do you really blast Nina Totenberg that loud in the lab where the baby would hear more than a muffled voice?

Hope this helps and have fun with your pregnancy!

  2. The plans have already been laid, and I'm going to use speakers. The question is, what kind?

  3. Ah, for your grandma reading recordings... that is so sweet!!! Here is a review a current preggo did of LullaBelly $55 http://is.gd/8GBSU and it doesn't involve sticky grips.

Or you can get totally geeky and hit the goodwill for some old car speakers since they cup slightly and macgyver them into some montrous sound system anchored to your belly with cloth (use hemming tape if you don't want to sew) and electrical tape. LOL. A belly speaker hack could be awesome!
